FUNKY SHOES

"Hey, those shoes are pretty funky. What kind are they? Where'd you get 'em?"

I get tired of answering the question. "They're Converse. The logo's on the inside ankle instead of the outside, see? I picked them up at a Footlockers in some backwater orbital mall around Titan about thirty-five years from now."

"Oh." Six second pause. "Is that where you got your watch?"

Sigh. "Don't be a dumbass. The only watches they sell at Footlocker are the overpriced plastic-and-Velcro jobbies with shoe logos on them."

"Oh." Six second pause. "Is everyone from the future a wise-ass %$@ or is it just you?"
